In the kitchen there aren’t many elements that have the possibility of becoming focal points. Usually the walls are painted in a neutral color, sometimes with an accent wall, the furniture has a uniform look throughout and the appliances also share similar characteristics. Among the elements that usually stand out we could mention the hardware, the lighting fixtures and the backsplash. Countryside kitchen with pitched ceiling and brick backsplash.
Outside kitchens, like the one below and the pool house kitchen in the cover picture are on the up. While they’ve been growing and have been popular in the United States, other countries have yet to pick up on the trend. Weather is a limiting factor to some degree, but it won’t stop this trend from growing in those harsher climates, such and the United Kingdom and other areas in Europe with questionable weather. In wet, cold and blustery environments, a sliding glass screen would work well to prevent the need for constant cleaning from weathering, while enabling versatility in its use, both in gorgeous and questionable weather conditions.
Lastly, when decorating your breakfast nook, remember that it does not necessarily need to look like an extension of your existing kitchen décor. As long as it complements the rest of the space, it’s okay to add different colors, patterns and textures to give the space its own identity. In the end, your breakfast nook should be the perfect place to enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a good book.
