The kitchen in this open design is just a step up from the living area. The two levels are a great way to separate the two spaces. Making them flow is the light wood cabinetry and platform steps that include drawers. Instead of using separate upholstered pieces, this designer has used upholsetery cushions and pillows to make seating. The kitchen island pendant lights share the same hue with the panel cabinet doors and dining table lighting fixture.
The kitchen adds drama with a strong presence of black and white. With one wall in full black and the other almost in full white, contrasts are created without blocking off the room. Similar grey partition shading complements a white dining table and chairs, artfully constructed in industrial mesh. A painted portrait and two curved, thin lights bring kitchen and dining areas together in harmony.
From the couch, a different view presents itself. Breaking the white of the kitchen and above-TV wall, a wooden entrance painted in mint green leads to a simple front door. Paired with white coffee tables, a middle cabinet and breakfast tables, white acts as one colour amongst many in this interior’s palette. With the help of Scandinavian shelving and more potted cacti, the look becomes consistent across the space. A pink, white and grey block cabinet laden with art deco prints spots the difference.
