A good general rule for enclosed kitchens is to place it in the center of the room. That way it’s equally accessible from all sides and won’t be an obstacle for people walking through. That placement might not work best for all kitchens, however. A perimeter island, for example, might work better with open floor plans. Size and shape are also determined by room’s layout; Allow for at least 36-48 inches between the perimeter of the island and the surrounding cabinets so there’s enough room for people to move around.
A nook is a cozy space designed to provide an intimate meal space for just two or four people. Generally a breakfast nook is tucked away in the corner of a kitchen or within a bay window. If possible, start by adding a padded window seat. This provides you with a great opportunity to show some personality and add some color to your space with an interesting fabric pattern and a few charming pillows.
Create an original table out of four wood pallets. A pallet table is functional for both indoors and outdoor use, with its simple and rustic look. The table can be customized to size, and its design can change as you build. (Be sure to choose wood pallets that have not been chemically treated.) Finish it off with oil, wax, or a polyurethane/deck sealer to add durability and weather-proofing, and you’re done.
